PLACERVILLE, CA – After Mother Nature lashed out one more wrath of wet weather that saturated the grounds at Placerville Speedway beyond the point of rescue last week, racing returns this Saturday night with an action packed four division race card for the Jackson Rancheria Casino Resort Championship racing season at the El Dorado County Fairgrounds.
Winged 360 cubic inch powered sprint cars will light up the high banked quarter mile clay oval along with the well populated Limited Late Model Division. The Pure Stock division will bring its door to door grassroots racing back to the forefront along with the visiting Midget Lites of the Bay Cities Racing Association.
So far three events have taken place this season at Placerville Speedway since the launching of a new title sponsor and many new editions to the foothill speedway including an expanded marketing campaign and sponsorship with the Mountain Democrat Newspaper, Foothill 7 Television and improvements to real time scoring with the support of locally owned and operated Calnet Internet Services.
The excitement of the fans this season is apparent both at the track and within the buzz on social networks, illustrating one simple fact. Placerville Speedway is the premier Saturday night dirt track venue in the region and the place to be on Saturday night. If you have been to the track this season, Saturday night would be a good time to start with a great racing program that features qualifying for the Sprint Cars along with heat racing for all four divisions. The Riebes Auto Parts Kids Dash will return that is a thrill for young fans and the evening is capped off with full length feature events for every division, putting as many as 20 competitors on the lightning fast quarter mile.
In the Sprint Car division, defending track champion Andy Forsberg of Auburn is already filling up his season scrapbook this season by leading the point standings after winning on opening night. Forsberg is 16 points ahead of former track champion Greg DeCaires of Elk Grove. Matt Peterson of Wilton is third in the standings, 18-points out of the lead. Point race #2 winner Justin Sanders of Prunedale is fourth over Placerville’s Jimmy Trulli who rounds out the top five. 19-points from the top spot.
In the Limited Late Model Division the top five point standings are well populated with seasoned champions in what looks to be the strongest year yet with this division. Recent winner Ray Trimble of Auburn now leads the point standings with a two point advantage over Matt Micheli of Live Oak. Defending Champion Tom Tilford of Citrus Heights is five points out of the lead in third place over Ryan McDaniel of Olivhurst and Marek Bernert of Orangevale.
Pure Stock competition has Scott Grunert of Woodland leading the standings with a win to his name already this year. Tim Mack of Diamond Springs is second, seven points out of the lead followed by Chris VanRoekel of Grass Valley. Jason Leonard of Elk Grove is fourth in the ranks followed by Rick Grunert of Woodland.
In the visiting Midget Lites, Brian Corso leads the standings followed by Dakota Albright. Marcus Smith is third with Scott Kinney in fourth followed by Terry Bergstrom rounding out the top five.
