Rio Linda’s Scott Hall comes out on top of Wingless Spec Sprint open-show at Placerville Speedway Saturday
Placerville, CA – April 29, 2017…The second Red Hawk Casino championship point race of the 2017 season was held on Saturday at Placerville Speedway and when all the dust had settled it was Rio Linda racer Scott Hall headlining the night’s winners, taking home the $1200-to-win Wingless Spec Sprint feature.
Also sharing victory lane on Saturday were Matt Micheli in the Ltd. Late Models, Ray Trimble in the Pure Stocks and Ryan Winter with the traveling Nor-Cal Dwarf Car Association.
Terry Schank Jr. and Cody Spencer led the field down to green in the 20-lap Wingless Spec Sprint main event, with Spencer using the cushion off turn two to grab the initial lead. On lap four however, he jumped the cushion and gave the lead to Schank, with Scott Hall also following along for second.
Hall would then scoop up the lead on a lap 12 restart and Spencer was also able to get by, before Schank packed his right rear with mud, ultimately ending his night. Hall eventually led the remaining laps to pick up the victory over Spencer, Paul Van De Berg, Brent Steck and Trey Walters. A total of 10 Wingless Sprints were on hand with Hall and Spencer winning heat races, while Schank captured the dash and fast time to begin the night.
The Ltd. Late Models put together a non-stop main event with Micheli leading flag-to-flag for the victory. Ray Trimble and Mike Lightfoot put on a show for the fans racing side-by-side for second during much of the race. Micheli ended up taking the checkered flag by over eight seconds in what was a dominating drive. Trimble won out in the fight for the runner up spot, with Mike Lightfoot, Tyler Lightfoot and Tom Tilford rounding out the top-five. Nine Ltd. Late Models signed into the pits with Mike Lightfoot winning the lone heat race.
Jay Bryant and Sam Bernstein set the front row in the Pure Stock feature, with Bryant grabbing the initial lead, before Ray Trimble took over the point on lap-two. A lap-three restart then saw Scott Grunert and Trimble battle side-by-side for the lead over a numerous lap stretch, until a yellow on lap 15 for Chris Van Roekle would stop the race. Trimble went on to hold off Grunert for the win, with Nick Baldwin third, last week’s winner Dan Jinkerson in fourth and Jason Palmer in fifth. A 17 car field was on hand with the two heat races going to Scott Grunert and Nick Baldwin.
The Nor-Cal Dwarf Car Association made their first visit of the season to Placerville Speedway and provided excitement as always. Mike Grenert jumped into the early lead, but a halt to the action was seen on lap-two when third running Buddy Olschowka had his engine expire. Things would change on the restart when Grenert got over the cushion and spun back into Shawn Jones and Mike Reeder. Jones was able to continue on, but Grenert and Reeder both came to a stop.
Danny Wagner inherited the lead until Ryan Winter was able to make the move around him for the top spot. Winter went on to claim the victory over Jones, who won out in a great battle with Wagner to score the runner up position. Scott Dahlgren and Kevin Bender rounded out the top-five. A strong field of 23 Dwarf Cars was on hand, with heat race wins going to Ryan Winter, Kevin Bender and Mike Reeder.
The Placerville Speedway will return to action this coming Saturday May 6 with the third Red Hawk Casino championship point race taking place. Divisions set to be on hand will include the Thompson’s Auto Group Winged 360 Sprint Cars, Ltd. Late Models, Pure Stocks, the new Mini Trucks and BCRA Midget Lites.
