Two nights of racing on Independence Day weekend in Placerville


Placerville Speedway launches busy month of July with two nights of racing over Independence Day weekend

Placerville, CA –The Placerville Speedway is locked and loaded to kick-off an action-packed month of racing with an exciting double dose over Independence Day weekend, beginning this Saturday July 1, followed by the annual Freedom Fireworks spectacular on Tuesday July 4.

This Saturday’s outing marks the seventh Red Hawk Casino championship point race of the season and features the Thompson’s Auto Group Winged 360 Sprint Cars, Ltd. Late Models, Pure Stocks and the traveling Bay Cities Racing Association Midgets.

A few nights later one of the biggest events of the year will then occur with the much anticipated Fourth of July show also doubling as Red Hawk Casino point race number eight. The Thompson’s Auto Group Winged 360 Sprint Cars, Ltd. Late Models, Pure Stocks and Mini Trucks will take the stage in front of what is always a packed house of fans.

The Thompson’s Auto Group Winged 360 Sprint Cars will also be vying for $2000-to-win the feature on Independence Day. The runner up will take home $1500 and third place will earn $1200. The Ltd. Late Model feature will pay $600-to-win, $500 for second and $400 for third.

The Pure Stock A-main will award $500-to-win, $400 for second and $300 for third. Jay’s Mobile Welding has also added an additional $100 per car in the main event on top of the extra money for the Pure Stock class on July 4. They will also be handing out hot wheels to every child in attendance while supplies last.

Once the racing has concluded the lights will go dark and everyone will be treated to a giant fireworks show to commemorate Independence Day.

“This is definitely going to be an exciting month of racing at Placerville Speedway and we’re all looking forward to getting it underway with a big Fourth of July weekend,” said RMI President Scott Russell. “Independence Day and racing always go hand in hand so we hope all the fans can make it out to both of the events this weekend. We’ve had a couple weeks off and everyone is eager to get back on the track. As always we encourage fans to arrive early on the Fourth of July and make a day out of it at the fairgrounds.”

Elk Grove’s Greg Decaires continues to lead the Thompson’s Auto Group Winged 360 Sprint Car standings at the helm of the Dale Miller Plumbing No. 4sa machine. The four-time champion has captured two main event wins and sits ahead of Jimmy Trulli, Steven Tiner, Jake Morgan and DJ Freitas in the top-five. Mason Moore, Justyn Cox and Sean Becker all have single victories to their credit thus far.

Matt Michelli goes into the weekend holding a six-point lead over Ray Trimble in the Ltd. Late Model standings. Michelli has two wins so far, while Trimble has claimed one triumph. Mike Lightfoot, Tyler Lightfoot and three-time winner Ryan McDaniel rounds out the top-five coming into Saturday.

Dan Jinkersen goes into Saturday holding onto a slim one-point advantage over Jason Palmer, who has been the hottest driver as of late. Jinkersen has captured three victories, but Palmer has scored the last two. Rick Grunert, Nick Baldwin and Travis Emery complete the top-five in the standings.

Adult tickets this Saturday July 1 will cost $15, while seniors 62 plus and juniors 12-15 will be $13, children 6-11 are $6 and those under 6 will be free. The pit gate will open at 2pm, with the front grandstand gate opening at 3pm.

Adult tickets on Tuesday July 4 at the Freedom Fireworks event will cost $20, while seniors 62 plus and juniors 12-15 will be $15. Children 11 and under are free!

Drivers meeting will be held at 4:30pm each night, with cars on track for wheel packing at 5pm, qualifying scheduled to begin around 5:30pm and heat races expected to fire-off around 6:30pm.

The Placerville Speedway is located on the beautiful El Dorado County Fairgrounds in Placerville, California. Take Hwy US-50 to Forni Road/Placerville Drive exit.
