Red Hawk Casino point race 14 on tap at Placerville Speedway this Saturday


Placerville, CA – The month of August marches on this Saturday night with the 14th Red Hawk Casino championship point race of the season on deck at the Placerville Speedway.

This Saturday August 11 is also "Vintage T-shirt" and Envoy Night Presented by Thompson’s Buick/GMC Dealership! Divisions ready to tackle the speedway will include the Thompson's Auto Group Winged 360 Sprint Cars, Wingless Spec Sprints, Pure Stocks and Mini Trucks. Be sure and where your favorite throwback racing T-shirt during the night. The best ones from before 1999 will have the chance to win a gift card.

Auburn’s Andy Forsberg continues his bid at bringing home a sixth Winged 360 Sprint Car track title and will be gunning to make it three wins in a row on Saturday. Forsberg has driven the Friends & Family Racing X1 to three overall victories this season at the Placerville Speedway. Placerville’s own Jimmy Trulli has racked up three straight top-five finishes and has moved back into second in the standings. Trulli will be in search of season win number two this weekend.

Hollister’s Tony Gualda, Cameron Park’s Shane Hopkins and Placerville’s CJ Humphrey’s round out the top-five with just four events remaining in 2018. This Saturday’s outing is also the final tune up prior to next week’s $5,000-to-win Mark Forni Classic.

This weekend is the start of three races to go for the Pure Stock division and their 12th event overall this season. Scott Grunert is closing in on a track title, but Jason Palmer is still within striking distance 15-points back. Kevin Jinkerson, Nick Baldwin and Rick Grunert complete the top-five. After this Saturday the Pure Stocks will finish the season with the Mark Forni Classic next week and Ladies Night on September 15.

Wingless Spec Sprints are set to join the card for the second consecutive weekend and for what will be their final appearance of the season. Last Saturday’s non-sanctioned event was picked off by Fair Oak’s driver Jake Morgan over Casey McClain, Matt Stewart, Timmy Sherman and Alan Miranda. The A-main will award $800-to-win/ $150-to-start. The Mini Trucks also return to action for the start of three races to go in their season. John LittleJohn heads into Saturday sitting atop the point standings.

Adult tickets this Saturday will cost $15, while seniors 62 plus, military and juniors 12-17 will be $13, children 6-11 are $6, kids five and under are free! The pit gate will open at 2pm, with the front grandstand gate opening at 3pm. A happy hour will be offered from 4pm-6pm in the grandstands featuring discounted Coors Light and Coors Original at the beer stand. Drivers meeting will be held at 4:30pm, with cars on track for wheel packing at 5. Hot laps, qualifying and racing will follow.
