Placerville Speedway hosts penultimate Red Hawk Casino championship point race this Saturday

Placerville, CA – August 21, 2018…With the season winding down the Placerville Speedway is set to hold the penultimate Red Hawk Casino championship point race of the year this Saturday night to close out the month of August.

The evening of racing will be dubbed as “Campora Night” with track partner Campora Propane on hand with a booth behind the grandstands to talk with fans. Live music during Happy Hour from 4pm-6 will be performed by the band Locked N’ Loaded. Divisions in action this Saturday August 25 include the Thompson’s Auto Group Winged 360 Sprint Cars, the Bay Cities Racing Association Midgets, Sport Mods and Mini Trucks.

As the campaign nears its conclusion Auburn’s Andy Forsberg has a firm grasp on the Thompson’s Auto Group Winged 360 Sprint Car title. “Mr. Excitement” has scooped up three victories thus far in 2018 and is looking to make a bit of history. If Forsberg can secure the championship over the final two races he will match Brian Crockett for the most all-time Winged 360 titles at the Placerville Speedway, a record that’s stood since 1991.

Placerville’s own Jimmy Trulli will look to rebound after a tough Mark Forni Classic last week and goes into Saturday ranking second in the standings. The local favorite has had a solid season and hopes to finish it off in strong fashion over the final two events. One of the more impressive drivers this season has been rookie Shane Hopkins of Cameron Park. Hopkins has had some bright moments, mixed in with a bit of tough luck at times. He will certainly be gunning to break his way into victory lane this Saturday.

Rounding out the top-five in points are Hollister’s Tony Gualda and Placerville’s CJ Humphreys. Foresthill’s Jodie Robinson is coming off one of her best outings of the season at last week’s Mark Forni Classic and currently sits sixth in the standings. The 15-year-old won her heat race and finished eighth in the feature. Placerville’s Mike Cook, Calistoga’s Mike Benson, Clarksburg’s Justyn Cox and Aromas’ Justin Sanders complete the top-10. Cox is fresh off his big $5,000 victory at last week’s Forni Classic and will be searching for his third win of the year on Saturday.

The BCRA Midgets are always exciting to watch on the tight Placerville bullring and make their only appearance of the season on Saturday. On the Mini Truck side of things John LittleJohn heads into the weekend sitting atop the standings. Chris Schaaf goes into the event ranking second, 23-markers behind LittleJohn. Rounding out the card are the Sport Mods, which put on a thrilling show in May.

After this weekend’s event the Placerville Speedway will gear up for the much-anticipated 49er Gold Rush Classic presented by Riebes NAPA Auto Parts on Wednesday September 12. The World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series event will showcase a 49-lap feature that pays $20,000-to-win and $1,000-to-start. On Tuesday September 11 there will be a hauler parade through historic Placerville at 5:30pm that will end at the fairgrounds.

Once at the fairgrounds there will be a kick-off party/ celebration in honor of Brad Sweet recently winning the 58th Knoxville Nationals. A concert featuring Tim Dugger will be held at 7pm with Tri-Tip sandwiches and beer for sale. The concert will cost $5, with kids 12 and under free. Camping is available at the fairgrounds.

Adult tickets for this Saturday August 25 will cost $15, while seniors 62 plus, military and juniors 12-17 will be $13, children 6-11 are $6, kids five and under are free!
