By Gary Thomas Placerville, CA…The Bay Cities Racing Association Lightning Sprints will launch a new season in style this Saturday with a visit to the Placerville Speedway for the annual “Spring Fever Frenzy.”
The season-opening “Spring Fever Frenzy” will be contested alongside the Sprint Car Challenge Tour at the Placerville, California based quarter mile. The event has routinely been one of the largest that takes place all season at the facility. Musician Patrick Walsh will provide live tunes in the midway prior to the races from 4-6pm.
The event on Saturday March 25th kicks-off a schedule that finds 16 championship point races at six different facilities for the BCRA Lightning Sprints.
“We’re excited to open the season at Placerville Speedway with the BCRA Lightning Sprints on Saturday,” commented Bay Cities Racing Association President Greg Dennett. “It should be a fun year for the club and this weekend is the first of several visits to the red clay, so hopefully we’ll have a good turnout.”
Last year saw Elk Grove’s Matt Land claim the BCRA Lightning Sprint championship on the strength of one victory and top-five finishes in half of the events. He brought home the title over Orangevale’s Harlee Aguilera, Livermore’s Greg Dennett, Placerville’s Brandon Leedy and Waterford’s Dakota Albright.
Placerville Speedway Promoter Scott Russell spoke about this Saturday’ event with enthusiasm. “This is going to be a great night of racing for the fans. We feel the BCRA Lightning Sprints are a perfect complement to the SCCT 360s at the Spring Fever Frenzy.”
“We want to thank all the tracks and sponsors for coming on board BCRA once again this season,” President Dennett continued. “The overall schedule came out really nice with 16 point races that will now run after the rainout last week in Chico. We look forward to seeing our teams and all the fans in 2023.”
Adult tickets at Placerville Speedway this Saturday March 25th cost $25 while seniors 62+, military and juniors 12-17 will be $22. Kids 6-11 cost $10 and those five and under are free. Purchase tickets online at https://www.eventsprout.com/event/ppr-2023?ig=13390 or at the gate on race day.
Something new at Placerville Speedway this season is the fact that all tickets in the grandstands are reserved to give fans better access to individual seats.
The pit gate will open at noon, with the front grandstand gate opening at 3pm. Happy Hour is offered until 6pm in the grandstands featuring discounted Coors Light and Coors Original at the beer booth. The pit meeting will be held at 4:30pm with cars on track at 5:15. Hot laps, qualifying and racing will follow.
For those who can’t make it to the track CaliDirt.TV will provide live flag-to-flag coverage of the event. The live streaming service includes the entire championship point race season from Placerville Speedway and SCCT in 2023.
