On Labor Day weekend the past will be remembered at Placerville Speedway during the Legends Night(s) the Epic Double and it’s shaping up to be one of the best yet.
Among the track legends in attendance and participating will be the one and only Ray Rust, who earned 360 Sprint Car titles at Placerville Speedway in 1994 and ’95. He also snagged a 410 Sprint Car championship in Old Hangtown during the 1987 campaign.
Rust accumulated 23 career 360 Sprint Car wins at the track, which is tied for 8th all-time with David Robinson Jr., while his 15 career 410 Sprint Car wins ranks number 5 all-time at Placerville Speedway. Rust will be one of several names from the days gone by taking part in the vintage portion, aboard a car built by Justin Johnson, with an engine supplied by Tony Borello Racing.
Nine-time track champion and current point leader Andy Forsberg said of Rust,
“Ray Rust was one of the smoothest, cleanest drivers I’ve ever raced against. When I first started running Pville he was one of the OGs that you had to beat. He could slow roll the bottom like no other. There was a 10-year span at Pville on the 4th of July, where the one time a year, race attendees must have thought that Ray Rust was the only guy that ever won. He always won on the 4th. I’m very happy I raced in an era with Ray.”
The Legends Night(s) the Epic Double on Saturday August 31st and Sunday September 1st also marks the sixth running of the Nor*Cal Posse Shootout presented by Berco Redwood.
Both nights feature Winged 360 Sprint Cars, with the opener handing out $5,000-to-win, while Sunday’s finale dishes out $8,000-to-win. Complimenting the Winged Warriors will be the High Sierra Industries Wingless Spec Sprints both nights.
Grandstand seating is reserved at the Nor*Cal Posse Shootout/ Legends Weekend presented by Berco Redwood. Tickets can be purchased ahead of time via www.placervillespeedway.com
